AREA ATTRACTIONS

Location, location, location

When you think of “Pure Michigan”, New Baltimore is as pure as it gets. With hundreds of years of history, this city has plenty of small town ambiance and big city amenities. Named one of the state’s 10 safest cities by the FBI, New Baltimore is as beautiful as it is charming. Downtown New Baltimore sits on the shores of Lake St. Clair, part of the Great Lakes International Waterway, offering a public park, beach and downtown shopping district along with recreational sporting activities such as fishing and boating. The city is located only 2 miles east off interstate

I94, 8 miles from M-59, and only 30 miles north of Detroit and the Canadian border, providing convenient access to visitors for shopping, dining, and recreational activities.

In recent years, New Baltimore has experienced a major revitalization in the downtown area. Tourist favorites include Washington Street Wine House, opened in 2010, Little Camille’s by the Bay, opened in 2012, Finn’s Eatery, opened in 2014 and Emerson’s by the Bay, opened in 2016. These businesses, among others, put the “beat” in the “heart” of downtown New Baltimore.

In 2013, the city government completed a citywide streetscape and beautification project with the proceeds from a grant funded by the State of Michigan.  The city was most recently awarded a $2.85MM grant for the purchase of Schmid Marina, a 17-acre site with 1,200 linear feet of shoreline accommodating 160 boat
slips located approximately 5 blocks from downtown. The marina, already a major tourist attraction adds to the hustle and bustle of town during the summer months as boaters toddle into town for dining, shopping and supplies.

In May 2016, two local businesswomen completed development of the waterfront Tennyson building. The Tennyson, a 10,000 square foot building with 3 retail stores on the first floor and
4 luxury apartments onthe second floor, is a stunning addition to New Baltimore’s downtown area.

New Baltimore is a city rich with history and a well-established community.  With the efforts of local business people and support from the State of Michigan, the city’s future is as filled with excitement and possibility as the time when the Baker Building was first built, nearly 150 years ago.
